An Adventurous Weekend at Nundle State Forest

Our team from Gun Traders Australia embarked on our first hunting trip to Nundle State Forest in NSW, and it was an adventure to remember. We set up camp at Ponderosa Park Campground, a free site equipped with just the basics, including a drop toilet. Despite our new hunting camper being far from complete, we were eager to explore the vast expanse of Nundle.

Setting Up Camp

We made do with the essentials, bringing along the recently released Darche Basecamp 2200 and its fully enclosed tent with a zip-in floor. To shield us from the unpredictable weather, we also had the Bushwakka awning, both of which we highly recommend for their quality and durability.

Exploring Nundle State Forest

Spanning over 11,000 hectares, Nundle State Forest is a mix of planted forestry pine, native gum, and other species. With our NSW Hunting Licenses (R licenses) in hand and our hunt booked via the DPI website, we set out to explore. While we didn’t spot any deer or pigs, we did find plenty of fresh signs, indicating their presence in the area.

A Challenge and a Memory

Our hunt coincided with that of three other parties, putting the deer under significant pressure. Despite the competition, we remained hopeful. At one point, I attempted to whistle up a fox for the young bloke, but the rain had other plans. It poured down, driving us back to camp.

Making Memories

The highlight of the trip was not just the hunt but the camaraderie and memories created. Sitting by the campfire, sharing stories and laughter, and enjoying the great outdoors are what these trips are all about. Although we didn’t bag any deer this time, the experience was priceless, and we are already planning our next trip back to Nundle State Forest.
